2020 World Cancer Day Event

On February 4, 2020, we joined the rest of the world to celebrate World Cancer Day, an international event to raise awareness of cancer and encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. Led by the Union for International Cancer Control, its primary goal is to reduce illnesses and deaths caused by cancer by highlighting the issues of stigma, misinformation and lack of awareness.

This year’s theme was, “I am and I will”, which was centered around everyone taking decisive actions to secure a future without cancer. We hosted members of the breast cancer community within the Washington DC area to an evening of networking and information sharing. A panel comprised of a medical oncologist, an advocate/breast cancer survivor and a metastatic breast cancer patient shared their experiences and what they are committed to doing as breast cancer and metastatic breast cancer advocates. The evening provided an opportunity for everyone to glean some perspectives about how different people are fighting against breast cancer, as well as inspire a fresh commitment to create a future without breast cancer.
