The AWCAA will implement an integrated program that targets African immigrant women living in DC Wards 2, 5, 7, 8, and Alexandria, Virginia by providing navigation services to these women with abnormal screening and imaging test results, as well as those diagnosed with breast cancer. Additionally, AWCAA will link them to community resources to help with their financial and psychosocial needs. The goal is to help reduce breast cancer mortality among African immigrant women.

The goal of this program is to reduce disparities for women with disabilities in DC wards 2, 5, 7, and 8 by collaborating with community and healthcare providers in mammography screening facilities. AAHD will also provide breast health education, and increase screening mammograms by assessing accessibility to mammography facilities and reduce structural barriers.

The Health Awareness and Promotion Program (HAPP) targets Asian- American women to increase their breast self-awareness, rate of clinical breast exams, and screening mammograms. The program includes one-on-one culturally and linguistically competent breast health education and healthy lifestyle workshops, linking women to appropriate services and providing navigation services by bilingual staff at low or no cost.

CASA is implementing the Latino Cancer Prevention and Control Program to address gaps in health care and access for low-income Latinas in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. The program also targets African immigrant women within these counties. CASA trains community health promoters to provide culturally-relevant breast health information sensitive to the challenges experienced by immigrant women. Breast health education, referrals, mammography screenings, and linkage to treatment are the core program components.

The purpose of ECDC’s Project PATH is to offer culturally and linguistically appropriate support to immigrant women that will help alleviate the difficulties they face while navigating breast health care. ECDC will provide services such as appointment reminders, and transportation coordination assistance to enhance access to services for women in the continuum of care following an abnormal screening. ECDC will also ensure women are accessing the community resources available to them, such as culturally appropriate support groups.

This program will address language, transportation, and cultural barriers through culturally-competent patient navigation services at the Howard’s Transdisciplinary breast cancer clinic which will provide patients a single coordinated treatment planning visit with a multidisciplinary team of professionals. The overall goal is to ease bottlenecks and barriers for women (and men) and provide a high quality, culturally competent, patient centered health care experience.

The KCSCGW project will provide evidence based interventions that will reduce barriers to access and increase utilization of quality breast cancer care to women in the city of Alexandria and DC Ward 2. The Breast Cancer Care for Asian Americans project is working to reduce breast cancer mortality by address disparities, increasing access to quality and timely care, and/or improving outcomes through patient navigation services.

This program provides innovative, culturally tailored and age appropriate messages to the largely immigrant population of Mary’s Center female patients. Providers conduct clinical breast exams, breast health education, and women over the age of 40 will be referred for mammograms to partner providers. Women will be educated in individual and group formats by health educators who will provide follow-up care and support as needed with the aim to increase breast health awareness and screening.

The Nueva Vida (NV) team aims to improve the health outcomes and enhance the quality of life of medically underserved Latino families through their evidenced-based model of cancer care. This project will address the cultural, linguistic and psychosocial barriers these women face when accessing breast health services by providing culturally appropriate and sensitive patient navigation services throughout the breast cancer continuum of care.
