Registration has Started for the Susan G. Komen 2020 Washington DC More Than Pink Walk

The first Susan G. Komen Washington DC More Than Pink Walk (formerly Race for the Cure) has come and gone, but the beautiful memories born from it will forever remain in our hearts. With over 5,000 registered participants, which included 600 survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer, over 200 volunteers and twelve sponsors all showed up early in the morning of September 7 at Freedom Plaza to raise funds in the fight to end breast cancer. Everyone felt a collective energy of unity, passion and determination to end breast cancer. It was an emotional, inspiring and fun filled day.

Nira Berry and Steve Alexander were nominated and crowned the 2019 Survivor of the Year and Co-Survivor of the Year, respectively. Survivor of the Year is a special honor bestowed on a breast cancer survivor (female or male) who best exemplifies Komen’s mission and goals. The Co-Survivor of the Year award recognizes someone who has gone above and beyond to support a breast cancer survivor as well as helping to raise awareness about breast cancer and raising funds for Susan G. Komen.

The Champions of the Cure team and its captain Susan Sonley were announced as the top fundraising team and top individual fundraiser collectively raising over $100,000.

We were inspired by those living with metastatic breast cancer as they walked in their purple Komen branded T-Shirts to participate in the Walk. We got emotional as well as we took time to remember those who are battling breast cancer and those who lost their lives to the disease. The We Remember tent was there to allow participants to take turns to write beautiful notes to show support, respect and solidarity for family members, friends or colleagues battling breast cancer or have passed on.

We want to thank everyone who joined us in raising funds last year. Your participation in the More Than Pink Walk is a huge inspiration. Thank you to the fundraising teams and individuals who raised funds for the Walk. We also would like to thank our generous sponsors and committed group of volunteers.

However, we are excited to announce that registration has started for the 2020 More Than Pink Walk. We are looking forward to doing the walk again this year. So we call on you to join us in making this year’s walk memorable.
